Finally, voice messaging service is rolling out globally on Instagram Direct today. Instagram, the Facebook-owned photo-sharing social media platform, has officially launched this new voice messaging feature on Instagram Direct.
As per the TechCrunch report, the service comes five years after Facebook launched a similar feature through Messenger. The “walkie-talkie service,” is now available also on Instagram Direct worldwide.
The feature allows users to hold down the microphone button to record a short voice message that appears in the chat. The messages can be up to one minute long and stay in the chat permanently. It works in one-on-one and group chats on iOS and Android.
This messaging feature could make Instagram more appealing chat app for drivers, people on the move with their hands full or users in the developing world who want a more intimate connection without having to pay for the data for long audio or video calls. It also could be helpful for users in countries with less popular languages or ones that aren’t easily compatible with smartphone keyboards. Through this feature, the user could talk to friends instead of typing easily.
Just in the previous month, we saw that Instagram released a couple of new features to make the user shop during the holidays easily.
They also have reported that the site is also getting its own shopping app very soon, tentatively it's called IG Shopping. There have some rumors that Instagram users in India might be able to shop inside the app in 2019.
A source familiar with the development revealed, “Probably, in the middle of next year, in the app will have a ‘buy’ button (next to a picture of the product), which will redirect users to the product page based on a cost-per-sale model. Once payments and other aspects are figured out, Instagram will start selling directly."
